A man is pulling a bucket of water, standing at the edge of a cliff.
Ground is supposed to be weak. Case 1 and Case 2 are shown.
Which case is safer and why?
In case 1, N = T + mg
In case 2, T + N = mg ==> N = mg-T (Tension T assumed to be vertically straight upwards even though it is shown to be in an angle)
Case 2 normal reaction is less than the case 1 normal reaction. Normal reaction is the force acting from the ground to man. So the force acting on the ground from man will also be lower (equal and opposite reaction) in case 2. So case 2 is safer as it may not collapse the ground under the feet.
