Closely related to Newton's Hypothetical Experiment, where we can change the initial speed with which we throw an object or celestial object such as moon. Depending upon this initial velocity or injection velocity in the case of man made satellites, the object may fall into the earth, go around the earth in circular orbit, go around the earth in elliptical orbit or it may completely escape the pull of the earth.
